Dekoh's amputation due to osteosarcoma journey

Author: Dekoh (Page 13 of 13)

I am an avid outdoors person who enjoys nice walks with my best sidekick Dekoh.

First Saturday Morning At Park

So folks this is a huge milestone for me today. This is the first time I have been able to take my Saturday morning ride and a walk in the park (granted it is not the dog park, which I can’t do until I am done with chemo due to my immunity being compromised). I have not been able to do this in 5 weeks and boy I sure have been wanting to do this. The only thing we did not get to do is to go to the pool for a swim but Dad said I will be able to do that after the next 3 weeks for my chemo to settle in, but you know what I felt GREAT to just chill in the park with Dad. After the park we took nice ride in the country and through the neighborhood to check things out since I have not seen the hood for about 7 weeks. I got to visit with some folks I have not seen for a while which was nice but then I had to tell them the news of my leg. I told them this is only a little set back and as I get stronger I will be out and about.

This was a GREAT DAY !!!

We are loaded up and going to the park.

Chemo Session #1

Well folks I had my two week vet visit yesterday, Friday 7/8/16, to get my staples removed from my stump. The first couple of staples pinched a little and stung a little bit but my Dad was by my side so I was ok since I knew I had my support. They removed 47 staples and the scar looks fabulous !!!

Then I met with my oncologist to get my first chemo session behind me. This was no problem, except they had to place an IV stint in my leg which is required so I can deal with that. The chemo drip went really fast and then they let me loose, WAHOOO !!! I did not have to stay !!!! I got to go HOME !!!!!

This is me chillin before they took out those pesky staples. Ahhh nice.

Day of rest

I have been resting today feeling very good. I took a nice short walk this morning that felt nice. Then I got to lay in the backyard under lots of trees making it very nice and cool to enjoy the outdoors.

Time in the park

Well we were able to find a nice little shaded park last night that has nice flat grass for me to enjoy time outside of the house. The past two weeks for healing has been quite the road taken. We have all learned so much about being a Tripawd and we will continue to learn. The park was very nice for me to hop around and enjoy being a dog again, getting to sniff trees, look up trees to find squirrels and just breathe the fresh air. We spent some awesome quality time just sniffing, hopping around (short period) and laying in the grass to feel the nice breeze across my face. This felt so nice to enjoy some peaceful outdoors time and feel the fresh air.

I have a big day tomorrow at the vet to get my staples taken out then we start my chemo treatments.

Dekoh’s Day

A HUGE woof to everybody out there in my new Tripawd world. I want to introduce myself as my name is Dekoh and I am a new Tripawd in this world as of 6/23/16. I am an 8 year old Rottie and I was diagnosed with Osteosarcoma (OSA) on 6/17/16 when my doctor performed a scope surgery on my left rear stifle to try and figure out why I started limping around mid-May 2016.  During the scope surgery my vet said my knee joint was is great shape but wanted to remove my TPLO plate just to make sure it was not irritating something on me, which this is how my OSA was identified. I showed my fur parents that I had lots of life left to show them and we all made the decision to get rid of the OSA pain and move on with life. As my fur parents get used to me being a Tripawd as well understanding how to blog I will update this site as much as possible with my new Drei Destination.  This is my Drei Destination.
